Predator 212 mounting

#1
Hi there,

I have upgraded a couple of db30's to he 212 using the PMR mount. I wanted to get feedback on whether mounting directly to the frame without a PMR mount is advise able or not. My concern is that the original 97cc comes with the mount plate prior to bolting through the sheet metal. Is this for added strength? I can confidently mount directly to the frame, but don't want to compromise the integrity.

Please advise, and thanks in advance?

The original DB engine mount is made for that small DB OEM engine, and really and truly is too whimpy (thin gauge) for your larger engine. The engine plate will flex and just add to the (generally) already vibrating HF engine (been there, done that).
The PMR engine plate will add the needed reinforcement/stiffening. Another way to do it is to add (weld) another slotted engine plate untop of your existing DB engine plate. That is what we did on both of our DB bikes and it worked out great.

My thought was to add reinforcement (1/4 x 2" strips) to the underside of the sheetmetal inside the frame rails and bolt the engine through to help keep things from flexing. I may try that first, and if not, may have to fab a plate for the predator to sit on. Thanks for the reply Michael!

I had thought about the 1/4x2" straps to back the mount too. I just think I will have my son cut a whole new thicker plate for it. He operates a plasma table at work and can cut stuff for him self. I think it would stiffen the bike frame up with a whole new mounting plate. With the bigger heavier more powerful motor I think the whole new mounting plate is the way to go. And weld it solid to the frame should make it safer too.

You want just a plate no holes or a plate made for 212 just 4 mount holes. Or plate with slots for the 212 you might have to set the engine on the plate to get it right where you want it before welding the plate to the frame. Just how thick of a plate would you be looking for? Let me know and I will ask him. I was just going to have one made for mine.

Slots would be ideal. 1/4 mild weld able steel should be more than sufficient. I would likely drill 4 holes and mount through to the frame. See what he thinks and pricing to do it. For now, the 2" steel strips worked really well. I was pleasantly surprised today when I opened up the predator to find it was a 212 Hemi. First one I'd encountered, and I must say. I am a fan!
