Road Trip to Backus Minnesota

#1
now that i am a man of leisure i'll be taking a ride from the great state of new york
to backus minnesota to pick up my new trailer from scamp trailers:

Economical & Light Weight Travel Trailers - Scamp Trailers

march 11 is the pick up date. it was supposed to be march 4th but we are in the midst
of a dog rescue and next week wont work.

it should be a nice ride, i figure on leaving monday, getting there wednesday, and hitting
the homestead on friday. this will be the first long voyage for the mighty jeep.

the trailer will be my digs for winber 2015.

Hey Phil if you need a co-pilot and I am not back to work by than I am game. Your route is less than a mile from my house right at the bottom of Lake Michigan-

Perfect timing.......the weather was just about 50 today in Mn. If you happen to be bringing a female passenger along, she will love to spend some time in the little town of Nisswa, just to the south of Backus. Have a good trip!

made it to toledo at 5:15 pm.

nice ride. ohio is a cool state. i drove past heavy industry, some
sorts of vineyards, ports, and the motel is a rustic little place
with 1970's decor and a pretty good dinner special of 2 coneys
and fries for 5 bucks.

early to bed tonight and will be hitting the asphalt at 5pm. that
should put me in minneapolis 10 hours of drive time around
4:30pm with gas and pee stops.

the mighty jeep is performing well. i'm seeing around 17 mpg.

the gps proved better than mapquest. gps routed me around
traffic snarls in cleveland whereas mapquest would have
sent me straight into it. i brought road maps and a compass
in case the gps satellites fail.

more tomorrow:thumbsup:

made it to saint paul, mn. left ohio at 6am, arrived at 4pm, all the clocks here are wrong!

the post master in my town said minnesota grows the best rice and would appreciate
a bag of the locally grown stuff, any suggestions where and what to buy?

heading out at 6am again, it's 180 miles to trailer nirvana. pictures of the scamp
hooked up to the mighty jeep will be posted when i get back to saint paul.
