Tecumseh Side-popper

Hello,

New to the forum, but been busy this last wheen (few) of days reading all the threads I can to help me with my intentions which is to build a minibike from scratch (see my introduction thread for mere details) basically because you just can't get them around here.

Anyway, I've seen a few Tecumseh engines referred to as "side-poppers"
I'm assuming this is because of the exhaust being on the side of the engine but I'm not sure.

Just curious, never heard them called that before.

Welcome Matthew! That is why they're called that, side exhaust instead of a rear one. I have a couple and they run great!

Welcome Matthew! No, there really isn't any difference between the engines. The only issue is the exhaust exiting on your leg, but several members have developed novel solutions for that. Have fun! This craze is addictive.

That is used on the big block motors and has wider bolt spacing. I bet it could be modified and it would exit out the rear and not on your leg.

Side popper is no issue , some mini's actually came with them , Cyclops being one of them !

I bought this little piece off ebay, it makes the exhaust shoot out towards the rear.
