I'm guessing it was front wheel drive to keep it from popping wheelies. You also wouldn't have any issues with under-steer if you rode it on grass or dirt.

Looks a lot like the pics Popular Mechanics or similar magazines published of home-made motor scooters during WWII. Delta bicycle headlight. Briggs washing machine engine with tank. Pre war General Jumbo Jr tires. Interesting scrub brake on the rear tire.

Great info Dick! Could it have been a 1920's Macklum scooter brought over to the US after the war, then modified with those parts?

I like this history!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is interesting to see the progressive nature of transportation.......I wonder how much of that bike was hand tooled? stupid question?
