Pull the sedement trap and turn the fuel on and off good flow? Next remove carb bowl and do the same. If flow is poor remove fuel line at carb and check. If bad clean out tank filter is plugged. If good take fuel shut off valve apart and inspect.
If it still won't run well without the choke on, you need to drill the main jet or get a larger one. My clone did the same thing but it works a lot better now that I drilled the jet. You will be amazed at the difference the jet makes.
