5hp briggs header pipe

this seems like a silly question but here it goes...

This summer I made a header for my 5hp briggs out of a flange i made, a coupler and a 12 inch length of water pipe.

My question is do i need tyo run a muffler on the end of this pipe, or will i run the risk of sucking cold ari through the exhaust and ruining my motor?

you shouldn't need to on that long of a pipe .is it to loud for you or something?

its not too loud, i was just concerned that i will damage my exhaust seat and valve, thats all
