Did any of you guys get a letter like this come through this week??

"We regret to inform you that Tecumseh power company in conjunction with its subsidiaries has decided to exit its engine business by the end of this year. Our anticipated last day of production is December 15, 2008. As a result, Tecumseh power international limited will be unable to maintain our supply of stock to you under the Agreement after our on-hand inventories have been depleted."

Going to cause a few headaches for some of you guys out there with TEC. engine

As it looks right now the TEC. motors will get quite pricey to build just like a blockzilla...

There are NO MORE replacement parts as of November 15. Thats it...

Here some more news for you guys-

Tecumseh sold out to Platinum Equity. Basically they buy companies in financial trouble and try to make money out of it by dissmantling it. I was told through some others that either kohler, briggs, or a chinese motor company will buy the machines and continue production. This is not confirmed.

In the bigger picture this is really bad news not just for us consumers, but for America in general. Its sad to see so many Companies we grew up with go under. Here in the Communist Peoples Republic of California in the last year I have see dozens of companies go under. Manufacturing, retail sales, and service companies. They just announced yesterday Circuit City Closing 155 of their 700+ stores, and General Motors down 40%. Makes you wonder What's Next ? Any of you dreamers think some socialist in the White House is going to fix everything... Yea Right... Dream On ! On a lighter note..... Tecumseh parts will still be available for years to come. Heck, look a Bonanza, Rupp, McCulloch, West Bend, and some of the others. There`s still plenty of nos (new old stock) parts around after how many years of being closed down. Don`t Worry be Happy !!

Right on Smallbore. Only one question; Where did you get the poem regarding metal? Is that only verse?

As for parts availability: I can buy a new gas tank for my 1914 Fairbanks-Morse engine. Anything there's a demand for will be produced.

So anyway,do you guy's like Tecumseh engines? I was doing a little research on em and it seems there is a mix of opinions. Some say don't go near em,others swear by them. That confuses me.I mean how can an engine be both, you know. One shop guy writes:

"i would go with a briggs or a kolher. Tecumseh engines are crap i have a pile of them behind my shop that all have a rod thrown through the side of them. If money is no concern then get a honda they will outlast all others"

I did notice no one badmouthed Honda. But Honda is out of my price range.

Briggs & Stratton also had decent reviews, overall.

What about the 6.5 engine Harbor Freight sells? Has enough people had the chance to really work this engine overtime for an opinion yet?

Ok then....

The poem is from the works an English writer Joseph Rudyard Kipling 1865-1936. Google him and theirs plenty of info. about him. Quite an interesting fellow....

Nothing wrong with a Tec engine. There`s still plenty of them still going strong after 30-40 years. Biggest problem with any small engine is the knuckle heads that run the crap out of them and never change or add oil. As far as the 6.5 Harbor Freight engines go....Their a Honda clone made by Lifan. They run strong, and i have not heard any reports of them blowing up. They are currently on sale till Nov. 9th for $99.00 and at that price, its a great deal if you can live with MADE IN CHINA...

Smallbore.
I'm seeing 149.00 for the Harbor freight 6.5 engine.Or was your reference of 99.00 to the 2.5 hp engine? I'm on the fence regarding the 6.5 hp engine Only reason,I don't know if I would be able to hook up the throttle cable. You know,is there drilling out or some fab.work needed to fit the throttle?
Ok then,Thanks.
