Just purchased a mini bike in Michigan what kind is it?

Hi Gang,

Well I am now part of the mini bike gang. I had a Fox Campus Bike purchased brand new in 1968 and wish I still had the bike. I think I sold it for $90.00 in 1969.

I was in Michigan to see my grandson and came across an auction. When I got home in Missouri I bid on the mini bike and bammmm.. I won the auction at a low price. I am not wure what I have here but plan on tearing the bike done for a total redo from the frame up.

Can anyone tell me what I have here and about what to expect? Any advice on doing it myself or having it done? The bike is in Michigan and going to be moved back to St. Louis on November 5th. Anyone near Missouri?

Thanks for any input I will keep everyone posted with results.
I posted pictures of the bike under dennisboldt user name.

There's a reason you won it very cheap.... :hammer:

On the other hand, if you find a string-head stalk for that motor, perhaps you can turn it back into a weed wacker!

He should have it shipped to himself via Greyhound.

If he's lucky, they might REALLY lose it permanently this time!

No matter what project it is you're tearing down and refinishing, it's always best to do it yourself and learn everything there is to know about it. Rather than someone else having all the fun. I'm working on a project that was "Made in Japan" and it doesn't bother me. Good luck and have fun. Maybe your grand kid(s) will get interested and follow suite.

Dennis,
Welcome to OldMiniBikes! :scooter: I'm in Foristell, MO, not close, but my father-in-law lives off of 141 in Ballwin. While your mini isn't the most collectable, you can still have a lot of fun wrenching on it. It could be a good low speed training bike for your grandkids. Let me know if I can help.

Welcome. Those will carry a kid just fine with a 49cc engine if it runs well. Clean it up and let the kids enjoy it but don't expect a lot out of it. Should you decide a bigger engine is needed it's best to move on though and get a standard old school frame like we deal with mostly here, you can do a lot with the Baja Doddlebugs and they can be had cheap. One here local for $150 right now. You didn't make a terrible mistake at $90 but the guy who paid $399 when it was new got stung.

First off how much did you pay for it? If you have to ship, dont. go on craigslist and find a real mini bike. Dont loose interest, there are much better out there, if these other guys dont get them first. good luck.

Is that a "freak" or is it supposed to look like that

Like others have said, it will be a good learning experience...you should try to track down a Fox Campus just like the one you had as a kid, that would be most rewarding.

George is right...if you have to pay to ship it , don't throw good money after bad....just cut your losses and abandon it . Tell them you were only kidding when you bid on it......:anon.sml:

...ahhhh I put it in the freak thread anyway.

If i can remember, i've seen one of those in my town. there should be a bunch of fake plastic engine stuff in front of the 49cc engine. The forks are not correct either. im pretty sure the gas tank is not stock.
i got one for free last year. Frame only. couldn't really do anything with it so i chopped it up and used the pipes for Headers..lol.
