Six Degrees Of MiniBikes...

#1
By now, everyone who knows me or my wife, knows that I buy and redo old minibikes for a hobby...

Pretty much everyone we meet either has an old minibike sitting out in a shed, or knows someone who does...

Quite often, people will call us to ask if we want to come out and look at some rusty, dusty piece of vintage fun that they would like to be rid of...

Personally, I prefer to collect only vintage mini's with 6" or less wheels, and if they were made here in Nebraska, that's a plus...

So, I end up turning down a lot of stuff you guys would probably love to have...

I've passed on several Rupp Roadsters that were steals...two were in the $30-$35 range...

I passed on two complete Hodaka minicycles with running engines...one was $125, the other was $100...

A month ago I took a pass on two Bonanza rollers and two Trail Horse rollers for $125 each...a member here bought one of the Bonanza rollers for $471.50 when it went to ebay...

But, last night I did pick up this Bird from a friend of a friend, and he has a friend with another vintage mini and five extra engines I'm looking at next week...

We'll see what he has...hope it's not just more Hodaka stuff...

I was desperate for some of that Hodaka stuff for a while...

I finally find one on a small dirt bike, brought it home and haven't touched it yet.... but I might be willing to buy some more.

Do you have any pics or a link?

I talked to Steve, the guy I bought the Bird from...

He had talked to his friend who has another vintage mini and five engines...

We're going to set up a date to go look at those...

Steve also said he talked with another buddy of his who has 25 engines stored in a grain silo and wants to sell them so he can store some corn...

When it rains, it pours...

If it's on eBay most of the time you won't get a super deal the sweetest find is one that's not for sale anywhere and you convince the owner to sell it and you get it for a song the next best is finding it localy on craigs list this vastly improves your chance of getting a good deal over eBay . And of course it's always nice to find a owner that has no idea how rare his bike is bottom line it's all about fun
enjoy
