Slanted or angled engine?

#2
Hey Dman not sure why some of the old style frames slanted the engines most likley due to better fit I had to slant my engines on my build off bike just to save space.

Guys didn't slant their engines. The companies slanted the frames. Rupp, Fox, Speedway, and a few others started slanting their 10" wheeled bikes around 1970. Before that, most of the bikes from the 60's all had flat engine plates. It was done for looks. I guess they figured it would look a little cooler with the engine leaning forward than sitting flat.

has more power leaning forward in the direction its going. Plus better cooling with the head in the wind . And the slant helps the gas flow in compensating for the forward motion. All very large improvements

I may be dumb but, I sure don't understand that logic. How does slanting a engine in any way shap or form improve performance?

Usually it was done for adding a jackshaft behind the engine and conserving space.
Also it was to imitate Motorcycle engines.
I hate slanted engine plates personally, but that is what we are dealt.

while the rest of his answer was pure sarcasm tilting the head into the wind might have been a feasible concept for cooling. it sounds possible but i doubt if anyone ever measured the difference.

There are a lot of racing karts with Raptors that are slanted, so is it for looks or some sort of advantage than sitting level? IDK, I just notice it.

Sure ya don't get more torque??? Better fuel effeciency?? More rpm's. Oh, I know, the clutch engages at the exact correct time.
Wow, I need to slant a engine.
Really...

rupp slanted the engine cuz it looks cool and takes up less space in the frame as far as height
.
karts slant the engine to get the air filter and or carb away from the tire
.
if anything slanting the engine is not such a great thing because the fuel in the bowl is not level with the carb & and the splash oiling system is altered a little
.
it seems to work ok so dont worry about it
.
I remember seeing a car that was all jacked up in the rear in the 60's and I asked my dad why and he told me that it made it faster because it's always going down hill
