Terra two piece

The wheels are still China grey.
The options are to leave them alone, paint them black (Not my choice) or make them orange.
They will need to come off to finish the frame anyway.
I voted for orange, but if we put fenders on it, that will be a whole lot of orange down there.

Maybe I could try to duplicate the rusty chrome from the shocks and gas cap?
I guess white is an option, too.
I assume everyone on here uses Evap-O-Rust on old chrome shocks. Does that stuff evaporate, or can I leave it uncovered if and when I decide to soak these shocks?

I'm sure over time it will evaporate, but I've poured it in open containers and soaked stuff with it uncovered, for a week at a time before, and it did not visibly evaporate any significant amount.

I've not used evaporust so I really can't comment on it, but if these are still the shocks your still using aluminum foil and some dawn dish soap should clean these up nicely. Just fold up a piece add a little soap and water and scrub them. I was amazed at how well it cleans chrome. Screenshot_20241012_061101_Chrome.jpg

I have been procrastinating, partly because Life gets in the way, and because I have reached that point where I need to finish up some little details and I do not wish to build something ugly. The big problems are the belt and chain guards as one project, then the seat, and finally the foot pegs.
They really all need to work together if we want a safe and comfortable bike that handles well. That is why I put the frame on the floor.I can sit on it and see where I can and cannot mount things.
The black metal belt cover was a problem I think I handled today. IMG_20241126_094205.jpg
I drilled and tapped this bar to bolt the cover onto and tacked it to the frame behind the TC.

Then I bolted the cover onto the frame with the "primary" chain installed.

I marked the cover and cut a piece out of it to clear the chain. I marked and drilled holes in the front of the belt cover. I cut a piece of 1/2 inch angle iron to fit behind the chain so it lined up with the cover. IMG_20241126_110322.jpg
Then I cut and drilled some scrap pieces and bolted them to the cover, tacked them to the angle iron, then welded the angle to the frame.

Now, we need a chain guard. I have collected some possible solutions, but I will only bore you with the one I chose to use. This is the way I received it.

After some cutting and drilling, this where I quit for today. IMG_20241126_115229.jpg IMG_20241126_115547.jpg
I think I can bolt it to those red pieces that the black belt cover is mounted on. That way, I can remove either guard without messing with the other one. Nobody will get their ankles chewed up and if (when) it gets crashed or falls over, nothing should be damaged. I do plan to trim the chain guard and install some expanded metal over it.
Got all winter to tinker.

It's time to start thinking about riding this thing. The weather will be warming up soon and I need to get some work done on this before the garden season starts. I don't plant anything before Easter because we usually get one more freeze after Easter, so I can cut and mount that chain guard and figure out how to mount that seat, or find another seat now. I might just whip something together and fire it up!
Cabin fever is setting in, folks!

@sparkwizard I like that seat, I just think it needs mounted closer to the back of the frame. The seat has a similar contour as loop in the frame.

Now if it's up close, so that Will can reach the pegs better, that's understandable.

Agreed. I like the seat. Though with my back, anything that looks ergonomic could be a favorite. Or is it too small, @sparkwizard ? Personally, I like anything that hugs your butt and helps you stay on board...

Any thoughts about a luggage rack? I'm just thinking that might also look cool to enhance that whole horizontal terra trail look you've got going on. And how about making the seat easily adjustable, so you can both ride it, and your son can grow into it?

He is growing like a weed. The Honda CT70 foot pegs and kick stand are not mounted, yet, either, so his input will influence that istallation.

The seat has a plastic base that was designed to sit on top of a big fat rear fender. I am still struggling to come up with a nice way to mount it. There is plenty of room underneath it, but I need to bite the bullet and start drilling and welding something, or just find a plywood seat base. I really like this seat, too.

I went out and took some pictures this morning. I want to share the situation with you folks, and then I really look forward to hearing your ideas.
I found the seat on Ebay for $10.00. I did not know what it was made for. The ad said "exercise bike". IMG_20250130_120202.jpg
This is a Harley fender I found on Ebay.

The bracket on the seat lines up with the hole in the fender.

The fender does not fit my frame at all. I do have a plasma cutter, but...that would leave nothing but a smoking hunk of sheet metal.
