THANK YOU JIM SAID HE DONT HAVE THEM AT BLACKWIEDOW THE BIKE I GOT IS A MONEY PIT
They are called a Snail adjuster in the motorcycle world.
Usually they butt up against a stop on the swingarm, all they are really for is to give an easy way to pull back on the wheel and be able to have a reference compared to the other side.
In other words Helps you center the wheel alignment. It does nothing when the nuts are tightened.
You do not need them.

Don't worry, Be Happy :)

In addition to aiding in alignment...I think when they're butted up and tightened down they help keep the wheel from pulling forward. If I only had one I'd put it on the chain side.
Yes, they are good at keeping the wheel back even if the nut becomes slightly loose. and of course they are chain adjusters hence the pullback action.
Better design are the eyelet with nut, they actually pull/hold tension.
Some swingarms will have a ruler of sorts cast into to it to help you realize when chain is too far stretched and in need of replacement.
Not on this bike however. Seen more on dedicated motorcycles.

I've never done better buying and selling Mini Bikes as I have with the MTD bikes, I couldn't count how many have come through here and I even still have parts for some especially the slanted intake and exhaust h35 I have for sale here that came off of one. I buy them cheap and sell the parts at a fair price, I have given away countless framing Fork sets but no one has put one of them together. I've thrown out a few of the ugly duckling frames but I always sold the forks. I love the bikes, my buddy has one that the suspension is stuck on and it has Honda 50 Wheels and a big heavy cast iron Clinton 3 horsepower. And it has some awful footbar welded across the front so you don't even need a kickstand. It could be uglier or more Awkward looking but he loves it and he's never going to sell it. He can go out and start it and ride it right now.

I have a hustler pr
Jim I have a 71 hustler project that I'm rebuilding also and just compared the chain adjusters for that to the MTDs and they were the same , The axle bolt hole may be slightly bigger on the MTD but they are ovaled a bit so I don't know if the hole is correct size but it will work on the MTDs even if the hole has to be reemed a bit, BWM shows the 70-76 being part#15250 what is the difference between that and part #13788 for the 69, possibly the size of the hole or is it a different size adjuster all together? I figure I might as well get a set for my MTD project now that the conversation is open and just want to order the correct one's and pass on the info to anyone else that can use some on the MTDs, thank you

#13788 has a larger bolt hole is all.
