The Snow Baja Mini...

#41
Ski mount welded... mocked up for spacers

Rear tire studded..

Bam!

It works ok in snow at around that depth, but we have areas with over 2 feet deep and it just sinks in the rear as it spins.
The ski doesnt work that great grip wise, but it works for keeping the front from sinking so it's better in some regards.

I tried adding some threaded rods for grip.. it's only marginally better.

I think I need a monster tire for the rear....

Looks good, but bottom line is, no matter the size of wheel, your floatation will not be good enough with a wheels, you really need a track. But, if you could find a paddle tire like they use in the dunes on quads you would probably be set because it dig and eventually hook up. If you ski isn't biting and turning as good, try getting a carbibe ski rod for it, they are designed to cut into ice, I have some on my sled, heck they even cut into the cement floor in my shop. Good work on the bike, it looks fun.

adamd, your front ski is totally wrong. using that type of ski as just one only in the front will not work well. problem you will get is it will feel like your trying to balance the bike, because the lowest point of the ski is in the center and everthing is riding off of it. making it easy for the bike to tip to one side or the other. it only took me about a minute to figure it out on my bike. so for a quick fix i mounted a 2x8 board/2ft long for a front ski and the bike handled 10x better...
type of ski you need to use would be like this. flat and wide and with a channel area in the center of it........

maybe for a better tire you might want to go with a deep lug style paddle tire and if you can find one with flat across tread. stay away from a rounded tire like you have on now. only thing that might fit good in that frame might be a tractor tire for a riding lawnmower. unless someone makes a tire in your size(19x7x8)....

I have tested this so many times all you need is alot of power/torque, and a paddel tire, the paddle tire grabs the snow and gives you traction, and the HP gives you the power you need to turn them big tires fast

Sorry I haven't been around. Delray is right the front ski was too skinny. I need something wider. Have also been toying with outriggers...

The clutch fried on the Baja and I was unable to get moving sometimes. Any recommendations?

yep same here too what jeep2003 said. gear it way down with the jackshaft clutch setup if you are still using it and not a torque converter and put a real big sprocket on the back. for example a 60tooth or maybe bigger. 15mph on a minibike going thru snow is going to feel fast...........:scooter:
