wont run unless choked

i have a 5.5 Coleman engine (Honda Clone) off of a presser washer and i put it on my go kart and it wont run unless almost completely on choke and the carb leaks out gas when not running it like over flows or something

if it's leaking gas there's a good chance the float is stuck open some. it sounds like you need to take the carb apart and give it a good cleaning (especially since it was a used engine).

yah i took it apart to see if it was stuck and it wasnt stuck. I put it back together and it ran so i drove it and then it died and it was leaking like a mother.
it is leaking out of the top of the carb i will try to get pics

If it's out the TOP TOP of the carb it might be the fuel line from the tank, to the shutoff, to the carb, somewhere..

But if not it's something acting up the float like Strigoi said..

its comeing out this little tunnel looking thing with a silver metal plug and a hole in it at the top of the carb

Thats because your float is screwed and the carb is over filling.. It might have chunks in the gas tank that are getting into the seat area..

i also wanted to know what does the screw going into the side at the bottom of the carb do

Thats a good place to start... Screw in the far bottom, in the bowl? probably a drain plug..

Ditto on needle valve/needle, &float adjustment-could be particules between the needle and seat.
