These four 5hp Briggs are bearing sidecase engines.
The engine behind the red loose sidecover is an IC engine.
....All 7 of the covers look about the same to me.

:doah: OHhh I thought he was looking for one...

Yeah.. look at the ones in Macs pic... The bushing engines have an aluminum nub that sticks OUT of the block.. The bearing plates, the crank shaft end is recessed down in a little ways, because it's resting in a bearing, deeper inside the motor..

Most commonly the dual bearing 5hp I/C briggs left the factory with a small bearing sidecover. The Large bearing sidecover was used for single bearing engines.
........Ahhh, but how do I know if these below are, or are not IC dual bearing engine sidecovers?

Most of the I/C duals were painted red or grey so the top sidecover is most likely for an I/C. Before the Large Bearing sidecovers came out, the single bearing engines were small bearing sidecovers.

Anyways, all three of those look to be small bearing sidecovers.

I warned you guys along time ago that I don't know what I'm talking about.........:doah:

The fact is, is the crankshaft determines everything.
It will tell you what block & sidecover you can use.

In a different post, I told people that there are new dual bearing shortblocks on ebay for about $250.

are you saying the early blocks used the smaller bearing? Did they start useing a larger journal for the single and the duell bearing engines.
