Clone Bolt Size (chain guard)

What size thread are the holes near the shaft on a clone?:shrug:
The ones where you'd bolt on a chain guard or whatever...

the 4 threaded holes in the engine side cover are metric M8 x 1.25

Mine are 5/16-24, same as crank. Champion manual shows M8 x 1.25 but they definitely did not fit my engine.

My manual shows they could be the metric M8 1.25 or standard 5/16-24 size. I have 6 clones engines and there half and half SAE and Metric
