Engine Scoop Idea

Ok I admit I wasn't sure where you were going with this but it looks amazing!!!!!
Excellent imaginative use of found pieces.
Rob.
Thanks! it came out kinda beefy but I love it, the only thing I plan to do now is put a holley decal to replace the DSG (What ever that stands for :eek:ut:) and possibly make a bracket. OH! and I gotta get a real foam airfilter in there.. I have some ac filter material in there right now and I dont know how well its gonna hold up. :scared:

yeah! finally made some progress on the original engine scoop! thanks to metal man for the scraps to work with.

I ended up rolling the edges of the sheets on a metal pipe to get the rounded edge started, then hand bent the rest of it with some pliers, which dented it up pretty bad but did the job of getting it in shape. I started THAT project like two weeks ago and gave up because after about 6 hours of work I could not for the life of me get the two halves to line up. got up this morning, 10 minutes of work... done. fit together as perfect as it's gonna get.

I've got tape holding it together right now but you get the idea.

the inside of the opening of the scoop is not a perfect oval shape like it was on my original drawing, that kinda works out because now having the more flat side will secure it better on the shroud. and it'll look nicer in the end. I gotta shave the points off of the face so it's nice and flat and I'll trace it down on to my metal sheeting and get that cut. that my be my project for today.

Seeing it in metal it looks like a small exhaust tip

Good job not giving up on this
my sister asked me if it was a cowbell :doah:... but hey, maybe i should start buying cowbells to put on my bikes now, after all they have the shape.

and thanks, I'm up to my neck in project ideas. If I had the workspace and the $$$ I'd be all set. I think thats true for most.

Depending on which way the "scoop" is facing, you may develop a partial vacuum over the face of the opening and the engine will not run right. It will pulse or back fire.
While it looks "cool", it really has to have high speed air being forced down the barrel in order to work. 40 MPH will not do it.

really? never thought of that even being possible. I looked at the bike earlier and decided that more than likely i'm gonna keep my meat grinder scoop because it's a unique part of the bike. I was thinking I'd finish the scoop just to strike another project off my list, I might put it on something else in the future.. until then it may just stay as a trophy on my desk.

I DO plan on modifying my motor, I'm waiting to do anything until all safety concerns are taken care of.. brakes, new chain, bearings, billet flywheel and rod, new tires, possibly shocks a new set of shocks. but even then I still may just keep the meat grinder.
