Thanks ya'll. I'm just like a kid on Christmas morning.

Now, don't laugh at me. I think the shroud on the bike is wrong.
That's a Tecumseeeeh under that there Craftsman shroud.

While digging through the box of parts, low and behold was a silver shroud with a half gone and faded Rupp duuuucal. And silver.
No pull cord.
So my guess is the pull cord broke and they just put that shroud on.

Those smarter than I will know. Cleaned it up as well as I can assembled. Not too bad. Back fender is pretty roached. Why??
And the tank will need a new distressed paint job.

Mine is missing the original recoil but it did have the aftermarket Tecumseh kickstarter (which I sold). I have another recoil here, but it won't match unless it's painted... and then it won't match the patina:doah:

Yeah Karen, all the snaps are there for the seat cover.
Once I took the pleather off, that was held on by a cut up shop rag weaved through holes in the pleather.
Cleaned a bunch of grime off of it. Looks like I'll just shine it up, put new tires on it, seat cover, and put the correct shroud on it and call it done.

That did clean up really good:thumbsup: Looks like the original seat cover was under those rags:laugh::laugh: My wheels are also pretty rusty, I might paint them just to stop the rust from growing:thumbsup:

Butch, it has a Lausen pump carb on it. Guess it don't need angled intake. Hell, I don't know.
Karen, looking for seat cover now, grips, and footpeg covers.

Tires, oh boy. Here we go. Gotta get the old ones off.
And new ones on. Should be done in about a year.

Yea, they didnt have an angled intake setup till 1971 so all angled engine bikes pre 1971 were diaphragm carbed.

The spoke wheels are a little easier than the small wheels, long as you got a few tire spoons, just make sure you use the tube with the threaded stem, that the rubber strip that covers the spokes is good and in place, and you dont poke a hole in the new tube when installing

with the tires that are on it now and the front brace at the headtube I would say its a first half of the year model, does the old silver shroud have the numbers still? And they really liked reflectors!! scramblers actually didnt come with them other than on the back of the seat so they added the side shock mount ones, kid must have been an anal crossing guard or something

I need new tires really bad. Its a shame because the original tires are like new but badly dry rotted. I am taking mine to a motorcycle shop:laugh:

Well I just bought some spoons. See what happens. I do have dainty hands.

Thanks Marcus for all of your input.
The numbers on the correct shroud are h35. 453040 0153 13060

I have messed with it some more this morning. Befor hell opened up. It ridiculously HOT!!
I used some clr on the back fender and part of the rims. I think they will suffice for what this is going to be.
Done with the early stages of cleaning. I have decided to take her completely apart. Clean, clean, clean. Wax on, wax off, wax on, wax off. And call it a survivor.

Well, I have been a messin around with this ol jewel.
Disassembled and first cleaning. Not horrible but....

Found this nice little custom feature.
So, I guess I may need a new jackshaft because I am sure this is wollered out.

Trying to decide if I am going to leave it and shine it up or just bite the bullet and have fun making it mine.
Rims are pretty ugly.

Don't know about them.

I shined up a section of the down tube just to see. This is prolly the best part of the frame. The swing arm is a mess. Tins of surface rust.

Fenders are soaking in acid bath as we speak. Little experiment.
This is befor at 9ish this morning. See what happens.

I am really fighting the urge to Candy Apple Red it!!!

And add a lighted clone with some goodies.
What cha think???
