One of the preported issues with DBs being recalled or whatever and talk of a lawsuit or settlement, was leaking gas caps. And something else was mentioned about lead paint as well! I hear the fix is done or being done so we'll see!

When I bought my DB at the beginning of July from Canadian Tire, they gave me a new gas cap to put on it b/c of a recall. Of course this replacement one leaks! And the MB165 I bought didnt come with a cap at all. :eek:ut:

The OEM cap on my MB165 seals great, I tried to use a chrome clone cap though and it leaked badly

Maybe I just got a good one

i would really feel sorry for the kid that got burned by the gas lighting up just for having fun on his/her mini bike. when i had my 97cc motor the gas leaked a lot from the cap.
the way they should redesign it is that is should be the same tank but with the cap on the side with a 3 inch neck and the cap should be threaded like name brand motors like tecumseh

Amazing, a stuck throttle on a DB-30, all 97cc's, wide open! What is slower than that; put on the brakes, hit the kill button, hells bells drag your feet and you will quickly stop - I find it very hard to understand how they are a problem!

These people remind me of the guy who bought the cheap house next to the airport . . . . and then complained about the noise! If you are so lame you get hurt on a stock DB-30 you should have known not to buy one!! You have probably hurt yourself on everything else you have ever done!!

Geez, paul i guess all them little kids arent as tough as you.I think falling at 30mph or not being able to control the throttle or having gas on you and possibly getting burnt is a kinda bad thing.

My OEM cap on my MB165 was fine when I first got it, now it leaks like crazy. So I took the rubber gasket out, cut a piece of corrugated cardboard in the shape of the gasket, put it in first then the rubber gasket on top of it and it seals fine now with a little added pressure. I just figured it was typical Chinese crappy engineering, figured a way around it and moved on.

" . . . figured a way around it and moved on."

Well there is a novel approach for 2010 America!!

I remember when we all took care of ourselves and didn't think everything was the other guys responsibility and/or fault!

Like, if it has a motor and only two wheels, maybe it will go faster than I can handle, maybe I will fall over and get hurt, maybe it will require me to fix it - decide if you can accept those risks, and if you can, don't whine and blame everyone else when that stuff happens.

FOR SURE, LOTS OF PEOPLE SHOULD NEVER OWN OR EVEN RIDE 2 WHEELERS!!!!! But they do anyway! Then they bitch, moan and sue others when stuff happens!

What happened to "Caveat Emtor"??

You know, I remember when they discontinued the Briggs Fun Power Series of engines for that same purpose.

The report said there was a recall on all go karts and minibikes with Briggs 5hp fun power engines.

They said when tipped over, gas could leak out and cause a fire..............Duh?

TT asked for this - Caveat Emtor = Buyer beware

In other words, check it out, be sure, consider the risks, and then if you buy it, no whining! No matter what, you made the decision, live with it! If someone is responsible for your disappointment . . . . it is YOU!! NOT THE MANUFACTURER OR THE SELLER!!

caveat emptor my ass....

Hold on there, MiniBikeMike....don't forget that the demographics for these minibike sales are kids, like it or not. We dads, or whomever, research as much as we know how but are usually not experts like most of you on these boards. If there is a defective gas cap, for instance, that allows gas to leak out maybe onto a hot exhaust pipe and my kids flesh, I deserve to know about it. And when this possible hazard is known and not corrected, or corrected with an equally inferior and inexpensively engineered part, that product CANNOT be sold and the "Caveat Emptor" rule of law DOES NOT APPLY!
This is more and more the case with cheap Chinese manufacturing.
We can put up with shoddy performance in engineering to reach a sellable price point.....but not when safety is so obviously the concern.
We have to rely on the watchdogs to try and keep our kids safe, with a deluge of substandardly engineered products coming from manufacturers that don't give a sh** if some of our kids are running down the street some Saturday in flames.

I can see that happening, i feel so bad for that kid, on my 97cc DB i put a beed of silicone around the edge of the cap so it wouldn't leak. Works good. :weld:

Well the fact is when someone makes and sells a product and there's a serious safety issue simply leaving it up to the consumer is grossly irresponsible. I sent my V.I.N.s to Baja and received my replacement caps, I have since gotten another DB and will be sending the info to receive another one as it is my right and Baja motorsports responsibility. Were the recall not happening it would be prudent to find a way to fix it yourself, but don't let someone tell you you're a whiner for wanting the issue solved by the responsible party. Had you simply bought a used minibike and it had an old briggs on it and it leaked you'd have no recourse but to fix it yourself. I had already remedied my gas cap issue before the recall but happily submitted my info to Baja for the fix it kit. I urge everyone who owns a product that falls under the recall should get the kit or cap depending on the model as it is your right to do so. Don't let someone try to make you feel bad about it!

It's starting again! Have a great day.
Nothing has started again, but I'm damn sure not gonna walk on eggshells and let bad advice be given on a crucially important issue. Fixing it yourself is fine if you are able but the fact is not everyone is, it was a pompus statement IMO and I'm not trying to start a damn thing. Should things get stupid I'll simply ignore it but I would welcome any intelligent comments disputing my post. You have a great day as well!
