Tec Bowl Carb without Slanted Intake

Curious as to how well the Tec bowl carb will run on a slanted Rupp motor mount without the slanted intake manifold. Have a line on a newer (95) H35 I thought I may use on a Sprint. Any experience running a Tec motor slanted without the slanted manifold?

Thanks,

You might have trouble with the float. The float may go haywire and allot too much or too little gas into the carb, which would cause problems.

I have heard of people having problems running tec carbs on an angle, but two of my rupps are running the slanted bowl carbs without any problems. I think someone makes a angle spacer if you have problems. good luck

I see slanted intakes all the time on e-bay shouldn't be hard to find one. But to answer your question like the other fellas said you will most likely have float issues.

Try it with out the adapter. For 4 years now I have run my stock Powersport 4hp Tecumseh with now problems what so ever with out a angle intake. Starts easy and rides fine.

Bottom line is......you will experience fuel starvation at one point or another, where that is depends on where the float pivots and in which direction centrifugal force is acting on the fuel in the bowel. But then I have had issues with fuel starvation in my go kart during sustained hard cornering, this is probably why most racing karts have pumper carbs, they have the ability to run in any position. Just going in a straight line you probably wont notice it much.

the guy's name is Hamlin57. he sells an 20 degree aluminum adapter to level out the carb. It helped me. I couldn't get my carb to stop leaking. I tried everything. A little trick is to take off the bowl and put a screwdriver in the little tab on the float and open it up so the float is hanging down a bit and not level. sorta like this \ not this __ this way the gas will close the float sooner, and it wont fill up with gas. A shut off valve help a lot too!

That's pretty convincing. Many of my motorcycles had bowls that were slanted, but perhaps the floats were designed to compensate. Knowing that you've had no issues is good news to me, though.

Good information - I've shot Hamlin57 a PM hoping to see what these intake adapters are about. May not need it if I have the same good fortune as minibikedude, but I'll check it out if he writes back.

you most likly will not have any problems on the straight and level it's when you get into rough and bumpy riding conditions that may cause problems.

I expect most of our riding will be in empty parking lots and the like. Putting it together for a couple of kids, and they're not going to be doing anything too extreme. If they dig it, I'll probably get a dirt bike that can handle the abuse better than my 41 year-old Rupp.

I have one of those slant intake adaptors, But, I still run that engine the way it came. Because people will tell you it won't work that way. So it my way of proofing them wrong.
I rode that bike for 2 days in hilly wooded trails last Labor day and it never missed a beat and I,m 250lbs rider on it. Carburetor is also level when going up hills too. Does good at Windber too on the trails.
So, I guess what I,m saying is. Try it out and you maybe surprised how it runs and if you get a slant adt. try it out for comparison.

furyus, try it the way it comes like minibikedude says. you never know you might luck out and the thing wont leak! But Rupp put a slanted intake or a diaphram carb on their bikes for a reason when they were building them! no? Another guy on the list Charlie D. is redoing a Rupp Scrambler I think. He was having a problem with the leaking and I hooked him up with the adapter dude. I haven't heard from him in a while. Maybe I'll send him a pm and see if the adapter helped him at all!

If you decide to go with a slanted intake don't make the mistake and buy one that fits the 4.0 hp Tecumsehs because it won't fit the 3.5 hp Tecumsehs.
