Since my rear tire is 14 inches tall, I want my gear ratio to be around 7:1 behind the torque converter.
With the 40 tooth sprocket on the wheel and a 12 tooth sprocket on the TC, I have 3.33:1. if I take that same 12 tooth on the TC to a 24 tooth on the jackshaft, then an 11 tooth on the shaft to the 40 on the wheel, I have 7.27:1 behind the converter. That should allow me to tweak the springs on the converter to keep the engine in the 35-3800 RPM range. Wow, that sounds complicated. It'll make sense when I get some pictures.

Did I mention that I hate UPS?
My converter has been out for delivery since about 5AM today. At 8 PM, it wasn't here, yet so I checked the tracking info at Amazon. It is now scheduled for delivery on 7 June. I can ask for a refund if it is not here by 7 June. I ordered it 8 May.

Ok, I finally got my TC, and it looks really nice, but I just don't think it's going to fit on this frame unless I use the Clinton A400, because it sits at an angle, and it is physically smaller than the Jacobsen. But the plan its to finish the Clinton and offer it for sale. I like the Jacobsens, though. They are reliably, smooth, have good torque for a smoke motor and they look like a West Bend when you mount a West bend shroud on them.
Even if I put a Briggs flathead in there, I don't have room for the converter. It goes on the shelf with the other stuff for future projects.
SO... the new plan is a clutch on a jackshaft, gear it at around 8 or 9 to one, and call it a cruiser.
Now, there are 2 Briggs 5 horse, one Briggs 4 horse, and 6 smokers on that shelf with that brand new, shiny torque converter.
It might be a busy summer. I got a sandblast cabinet from a military shop and it is all hooked up, I fixed my plasma cutter after it's been down for several years, I got a tank of gas for the MIG and I have a tube bender on the receiver hitch on my truck.
All I really need is a pile of tubing and a pile of money.

Maybe I could shoehorn a predator 420 into this project and put two of these Jacobsens on Will's Wheel Horse yard dog tractor.
That would give me plenty of torque on this one.

Ok, I have a new plan. I really do want a converter on this frame, and by on this frame, I mean it stays on the frame with all adjustments intact when I swap an engine. My 3 running Jacobsen smokers have different PTO. Two have stubby 3/4, one is a long 7/8. All of my other oil burners are 5/8.
For that reason, I plan to mount the TC driver on a jackshaft and run a chain from there to the engine PTO. That way, I can use one driver on a 3/4 jackshaft and I can adjust its speed by changing sprockets on the engines and the jackshaft. If you didn't follow that, please raise your hand. I bought a TC jackshaft from another member here just because I wanted it. While pondering the current lack of progress on this thing, I stuck that jackshaft into this frame behind the engine. If I revise my swing arm attaching point, I can get a straight shot from this sprocket to the wheel sprocket. I can also run the chain AROUND the pivot point. That is very important on bikes with rear suspension. It keeps the chain from getting loose and tight when you hit bumps.

I can drill and tap a hole in the end, mount the TC driver OUTSIDE of the frame, under my left thigh, mount a sprocket behind it, similar to the sprocket on the jackshaft behind the driven pulley on a TC kit.
I can then remove the bolt, remove the driver, slide the engine back to loosen the chain, remove that sprocket and chain, slide a different sprocket and chain ( a matched set) onto the shaft, adjust chain, install belt and driver. Using multiple engines.

I ordered an NOS Azusa chrome gas tank, thinking it might sit down over this frame. I got it today, and it's not even close.
I handed it off to another member who can use it and I found this on Ebay. If this one fits UNDER the frame and clears the two stroke engine, I will be happy. I think the tapered section on this moped tank might be close to the taper on the Terra frame.

I got my moped gas tank today. it's not a perfect fit, but I can work with it. I think it's over a gallon, but under two. I am hoping to get a good hard afternoon out of it without carrying a spare can. I like the way it sits under the seat, and does not limit my seat choice. Kinda sneaky, huh? That piece that I made for the chain to go through the frame was much too narrow for the chain with the 75 tooth sprocket on the wheel. With the frame upside down and the jackshaft installed, I put a chain on it and cut the frame above and below the chain. It's too hot to muck around with a ruler and a Sharpie. Then, I cut a piece of 1/8 inch plate, drilled a 10mm hole in it , lined up the swing arm where it looked correct through my sweat dripping bifocals and welded it to the frame.. More ugly welds to grind off on a cooler day, but I was able to install the wheel and flip the frame right side up. The tank looks great. The torque converter looks strange, but I don't think it will chew my thigh as long as I'm careful.
Anybody less that six feet tall might have a problem. The muffler installed on this engine is a factory 3 horse muffler. It is not gonna work on this frame. I know the rear wheel is mounted backward. @hermans13 , I am pretty sure I will be using the 3.5 horse engine that I got from you. The compression tested better than the rest, the muffler is tucked in closer to the cylinder and the side cover is cast iron, not aluminum. The reason it's not on there yet is because it has a weird governor linkage, and I am hesitant to remove or modify it, as some snow blower guys might want that linkage.
Only one of these old Jakes has spark right now. That will be a project for cooler weather. If I pull one flywheel, I'll pull them all and replace whatever needs to be replaced.
