rusted

I've got the bike torn down other than this rusted mess. I took a nut off one side and a C clip and washer off the other. Anybody that has any experience with these and would like to give me their input I would sure appreciate it. Here are some pictures of what it looks like.

I figured since this is a two piece wheel it would be real easy to fix the flat today. So I took the three bolts out( one was rusted through and broke, of course..this is the bike where everything is rusted to Hell!!!) and tried to pull it apart. But what the hell is the the secret to this...
