busted by the cops again....

me and my friend were out riding around the Safeway parking lot by his house last night. he was on his DB30 (w/ the 110cc swap) and i was on his little 90cc Honda quad that he has (very slow, but way more fun than mini bikes. just figured out how to do donuts on it today). the cops first saw me, then they saw him hauling ass across the parking lot, hit the lights and went after him. he pulled over pretty quick and then i rolled up.

he'd had a few beers so i was thinking he might be in trouble (i hadn't had any, which is why i didn't take off when they went after him). the cops were cool and didn't even ask if either of us had been drinking. they just said that we can't be riding them around there at night, especially since we didn't have lights. they said they could fine us, but decided to give us a break.

it turns out one of the cops was the one that arrested me for DUI about a year and a half ago, he remembered me too. when i told him what i spent on a lawyer and that i never got charged he did the "oh shit" face.

so, they just said to stop and go home (this was about 500' from his driveway). it doesn't matter to us since he's getting kicked out of his place and is moving soon. starting next weekend, i'll also have a new places to ride anyways (i'm moving).

that was my saturday night.

If you put a hotdog in your muffler it'll sure smell good half way through your ride.

It would definately smell better than the pinecone we stuffed in my buddy's Harley pipe up in the canyon today LOL

Its good to get a break from the cops, but it sucks to be hassled anyways.
Its hard to find anywhere to ride w/o hassles in the city. :censure:

Sometimes you're the bug and sometimes you're the windshield. The cops were having a good night and you passed the attitude test.
Agree, most cops don't want the paperwork unless your attitude gives them a reason.

But, you were in a private parking lot, not on a public road....could Safeway have complained?

it's private property, but anywhere the public has access to (like there) is considered public property.

last weekend we were riding the quad and dirt bike in the field behind his house and the cops had someone pulled over on the main road that butts up to it. all they did was look over at us when they saw us and that was it.

it's really a fine line around there. we've had the cops say we can ride in the parking lot (which is hahahahaing huge), other say we can stay on the gravel part going up to his place (which is pretty long) and then these guys saying we can't do it at all on that stretch. it all depends on who you deal with.

we've gotten away with so much shit around there (don't ask) that we just see these situations as a bit of payback for them not busting us before.:thefinger:

Geez Strigoi you surface memories from long ago. 38 years ago I rode my CT70 well off the side of rural roads (we had trails along the fence line averaging about 8-10 ft off the shoulder of the road). One Dupage County Sheriff had it in for me. I still remember it was car #65. 3 times he stopped me, made me fold the handlebars down, loaded it in the trunk of his cruiser and took me home to face my father. My dad would look at me sternly and tell the cop "I'll take care of this". The cop would deliver the usual lecture and be on his way. Later my dad would say "just stay clear of that jack*#*".

The last time I was tempted to leave the fuel tank vent open so it would dump fuel in his trunk, but I had too much respect for the law.

Ahh well I guess the sheriff never had a minibike and just hated me...

Strigoi : Yes you live right on the edge of the canyon racing through life and surviving by the knowledge of just where that edge is. But I guess that is where the memories come from.

it's a little 90cc quad. i think it's cool it can go over curbs.

as for my thinking when this happened.

when i got my DUI he was ahead of me (pretty far in front), jammed into his driveway, grabbed a beer and came out when i had the cops drilling me.

this time they went after him and i was sober. if i took off, they never would have found me (i know the cuts behind his place) but that just didn't seem like the best idea at the time. i figured if i went up to where they were it would make it easier for both of us.

Strigoi,

I have been quiet latley, however, I do need to ask? Why push those limits knowing that fines could be stiff. EXAMPLE: Pam Anserson is a hottie! Right, but she has the HEP. So, Would you "DO" her anyway and take that chance?

I have been involved with the Plumeria Forums since 2002. Where I bash and inflict hurtful comments to the GREEDY people there. They send pests inbedded in the plants and have no Dept. of AG. permits and little knowledge of what they are doing?

Google: maul plumeria forums and look at cache because most have been deleted or taken down. That is why I have not been here that much. I got the rim and tire from Bad Dog and was dissappointed he sent the wrong tire after I sent pictures and written descriptions of what exactly I needed. I wanted the tires to match? Is that so difficult? I got a sat tooth front. I am on vacation.

My question to you is simple: Are you just looking to have fun? Or, are you trying to push the limits and get more fines? Is there not a place to ride near you where you can make a day of it without the cops being involved? Are you a thrill seeker?

Let me know as you are one of six of the most respected members and I will elaborate whom. Not in any order.

it's all about having fun and seeing what i can get away with. at my friend's place riding around like we do really isn't a big deal. that town is asleep by 9pm so there's hardly anyone out. the parking lot is damn near empty and has the occasional car in it that late. we're not stupid about it and stop and wait for cars when we see them (since they won't see us). the problem is the cops are bored and have nothing better to do (Moraga is very safe and not very big).

when we ride there during the day we spend 95% of the time up closer to his place where cars don't really go (it turns to gravel and dead ends so there's no reason for people to drive up there).

i attached a pic. we spend most of the time riding between the two blue lines. the only time we go further down or into the parking lot is at night. people don't pay attention at the one driveway so we stop there so we don't get hit (right at the bottom blue line).

we're not hurting anyone and his neighbors have said they don't care about the noise.

i'm moving this week and should have a bunch of space to ride. it still won't be legal but it will be by an industrial area with very few cars on the weekends (there's a Heald there with a huge parking lot). there's also a long road going to the Naval Weapons Station but they have cop guys at the entrances along the road. i'm not sure if they'll hassle me or not. i'll probably just ask them if it's ok for me to ride there. it would be nice because i won't have to load up the mini in my truck to play there.
