how to make a muffler quieter? (so the cops cant catch me)!!!

Im gunna go with the sausage,

the pancakes only have one round baffle in them, smoke up your gas tank, and dont flow well,

the sausage ones arnt too loud, and keep the tank clean as well as sound good and perform great, they have a single baffle in the center but a large passage around the baffle that kinda quiets them nicely,

Id just build it faster, then they cant catch you.... Then again they wait in your drive way till you come back:glare:

As for making them quieter, maybe an ATV exhaust, but thatll cost a few bones, Ive always wanted them louder, but I see where your coming from

I added one of the sausage ones onto my sons old bike, didnt really make it much quieter but it did change the tone so it wasnt so annoying

I have built several muffler systems. On the 750, I have 18" of flex pipe the a sausage muffler. On another I put the muffler in the middle of a 18" flex pipe. The tone is better with the muffler in the middle. Both of these pipes allow for more clearance between the carb and pipe. I also wrap the pipe near the carb with a hear sheild to prevent vapor lock. The quietest muffler we have found was off a wisconsin motor.

What exactly is flex-pipe?

you want really quiet ??? this works . take a piece of pipe and slip it over the muffler about 10 inch now in the pipe put fiber glass insulation dont ram it in there just cut a strip to fill the pipe full , gently packed. on the end put a juice can with a bunch of holes in it about .25 inch. it will be real quiet. did some thing like this on a 2 cycle birt bike you couldn't hear the exhaust at all but every sound in the block was clear .the bad thing is it will suck power welcome to gutless wonder . but if you make it easy to put on and remove from the hotdog you could go silent when needed and let it ripp to get out of dodge .

Trial and error may work for some but if you are going off road one concern is the forest approved spark arrestor. jack's Small engines sells the Super trap spark arrestor and also a add on resonator to quiet it down . Cheap NO but a ticket for not having an approved exhaust would set your Christmas fund into the red
This unit is adjustable so that good back pressure is assured by the number of plates used.

Sausage muffler with a slip-on can over the top. Someone over on my site also used a sink pipe with #3 coarse steel wool stuffed around it.

so if i get a spark arrestor, will it be street legal?

not street legal by any means, but Steve, a Link, I must have one!

and an 18 inch piece of pipe, screams at high end has a really interesting tone, and is extremely loud, and I liked it, add a female adapator and add a sausage muffler if ya want,

my favorite muffler was using a sausage, adapter to add a four inch piece of pipe into the mix, and painted with black exhaust pipe, the finish on them is crap, and i hate rust

but the weight of it can warp the block, and this is why, if unsupported its not good to do,

The link is just Jack's Small engine the super trap model 3S -075T is the 3/4 inch size look up jacksmallengines.com.com like I said they are not cheap but you pay for the compliance. That's why all the excuses won't wash when the forest is on fire.
